With the bright idea of getting some early “ax-mas shopping” done, two thieves rolled through the assumingly ‘quiet’ Marin County town of Tiburon at 3:00 a.m. and commenced to kicking the doors down at Shoenberg Guitar Shop, located on Ark Row.
Their mission? To steal three rare Martin guitars worth an estimated value of $70,000. Eric Shoenberg, the guitar shop owner said the valuable guitars were made in 1919, 1933 and 1987 and are like the “Stradivarius of guitars.”
Guitar nappers Douglas Chris Knudtson Jr. and Shannon Cooper were later stopped in their rental car by a keen Belvedere police officer who heard the ruckus earlier, putting two and two together. The officer recalled earlier seeing the unfamiliar red car driving through the tiny town.
The two were arrested on burglary charges. Knudtson is currently being held in custody at the Marin County Jail. Cooper was released pending future court hearings.
It comes as no suprise to find out these ‘music impresarios’ both have previous criminal histories.
